Chawdae Cuneo was an enrolled member of the Fort Mohave Indian Tribe, at the time of her untimely passing. Chawdae oversaw and supervised the Fort Mohave Indian Tribe’s Animal Control Program.
Chawdae’s sincere passion for family reflected her pride in her culture, her community and other native communities. This was evident when Chawdae was elected as Vice-President of AZACA. Chawdae was the first Native American to hold thus position since the organization was formed in 1983.
As Vice President, Chawdae’s focus was not only to the organizations mission to provide the highest quality education and training for all Arizona agencies, responsible for enforcement, control and care of animals. Chawdae made it her goal to bring together all Arizona Tribal Reservation programs who share similar responsibilities.
Chawdae’s vision for Arizona Tribal Communities remains today, with the introduction of the AZACA Chaw Scholarship. At the 2023 AZACA Training Summit, the membership overwhelmingly approved the implementation of this scholarship honoring Chawdae.
The Chaw Scholarship is open to all twenty-two Arizona Tribal Government Agencies. All Arizona Tribal Communities are eligible and automatically entered for consideration. The awarded agency will have the opportunity to send a member of their personnel to the AZACA Training Summit. The scholarship will pay for the individual’s AZACA membership, conference fee and hotel lodging during the conference.
